If you have nothing but time on your hands and your pup is the centre of your life then this diet is the ultimate for raising healthy Danes. It is what we wean them onto, and they just love it!
Natural Rearing of a puppy results in:
Feed the meals four hours apart if possible. Always remove what is not eaten and clean the bowls thoroughly.
Breakfast
Between 6am and 8amLunch
Between 10am and 12pmAfternoon snack
Between 2pm and 4pmDinner
Between 6pm and 8pmAs the size of your pup increases you will need to increase the size of his meat meals. We don’t increase the size of the cereal meals. Work on 1/12- 1/20th of his body weight as a guide to total meat feeds each day. However a Dane will not usually overeat. Give a puppy as much food as he will eat without his tummy becoming distended after eating.
Also be aware of the weather, Danes will not overeat in the heat. A nice cold marrow bone to chew on with a bit of meat on it will often keep them happy in this case. Feed them in the cool of the morning or later at night. Remember carnivores are night hunters by nature.
Never mix the meat and starch meals, as they are incompatible, with the only exception being an occasional sprinkle of flaked oats.
Plain milk should not be given without the herbs and honey.
